** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Åmänningen is a medium-sized lake in Västmanland County where surface temperatures follow a clear seasonal pattern. In spring the water typically ranges from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as ice melts and the lake mixes. By early to mid-summer surface temperatures commonly reach 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), with shallow, sheltered bays occasionally warming to 20–24 °C (68–75 °F) during warm spells. In late summer and early autumn temperatures gradually fall back into the 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) interval as nights cool and wind-driven mixing increases. In winter the lake approaches freezing; surface temperatures are normally close to 0–2 °C (32–36 °F) where ice persists, and any open water remains very cold.
Swimming in Åmänningen is generally possible and commonly practiced because of Sweden’s public access traditions and the presence of easily reached shoreline areas and informal bathing spots. Local conditions determine whether any particular place is suitable: water depth, sudden drop-offs, currents near inlets and outlets, and water quality should be checked before entering. In summer, warm surface layers make recreational bathing comfortable, but in spring and autumn cold-water shock is a risk, and in winter ice and hypothermia hazards make swimming dangerous or dependent on proper ice-safety measures. Always follow local guidance and common-sense precautions.
