If you decide to swim, it is important to have the appropriate gear, such as a wetsuit. Typically, only experienced swimmers or those who practice winter swimming venture into such waters. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. ** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tolven is a smaller freshwater lake in Gävleborg County known locally by the same name, Tolven. Seasonal surface temperatures vary noticeably: in summer (June–August) the water typically warms to about 16–22 °C (61–72 °F) at popular swimming spots, while late spring (April–May) often sees cooler conditions around 0–10 °C (32–50 °F) as the lake thaws. In early autumn (September–October) surface temperatures usually fall into the 5–15 °C (41–59 °F) range. During winter months the lake commonly freezes over and the liquid water beneath the ice remains close to 0–1 °C (32–34 °F), so open-water temperatures are effectively at freezing point until thaw.
Swimming in Tolven is generally possible and commonly practiced in the warmer months, since public access to shorelines is supported by Sweden’s right of public access (allemansrätten), but users should respect private property and posted signs. There may be no formal lifeguards or maintained facilities, so swimmers should judge water quality, visibility and currents locally and be aware of cold-water shock in cooler seasons. In winter, swimming is not advisable except for organized and well-prepared ice-bathing with proper safety measures; always check for local advisories and ice thickness before attempting any winter activity.
