*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Nolin Lake’s water temperature changes substantially through the year and varies with depth, location and recent weather. Surface temperatures in summer commonly range from about 72–84 °F (22–29 °C), often peaking in July and August; early fall waters typically cool to roughly 55–70 °F (13–21 °C). Spring surface readings can be in the 50–65 °F (10–18 °C) band as runoff and air temperatures moderate, while winter waters generally sit near 35–45 °F (2–7 °C) and may approach freezing in shallow, sheltered coves. Deeper parts of the reservoir remain colder year-round and the lake can develop thermal layering during warm months, making shaded or deeper spots noticeably cooler than sunny shallows.
Swimming at Nolin Lake is permitted in designated areas managed by facilities around the reservoir, and many campgrounds and beaches welcome swimmers in warm months because summer surface temperatures are usually comfortable for recreational bathing. However, lifeguards are not present at all sites and conditions such as high flows, water-quality advisories, debris, or hazards near the dam can lead to temporary closures, so swimmers should heed posted signs and exercise caution, especially when temperatures are low or visibility and currents are poor.
