** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Malone’s water temperature follows a typical temperate reservoir pattern, cooling through late fall and winter and warming in spring and summer. In winter the surface commonly ranges from about 35–45°F (2–7°C), rising in spring to roughly 45–65°F (7–18°C) as runoff and air temperatures warm the water. Peak summer surface temperatures often reach about 70–85°F (21–29°C) on warm days, while early fall sees a gradual decline into the 55–70°F (13–21°C) range. These are general surface ranges; deeper or shaded areas remain cooler and temperatures vary with weather, wind and year-to-year conditions.
Swimming at Lake Malone is permitted in areas managed by the state park and is generally most practical during the warmer months when surface temperatures are in the upper part of the summer range. Designated beach or swim spots may be open seasonally and are subject to closure for safety reasons such as hazardous weather, high bacteria counts or algal blooms; lifeguards are not always present, so swimmers should follow posted rules and use caution because cold water, changing depths and submerged structures can pose risks even when air temperatures feel comfortable.
