*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Moose Pond in western Maine experiences marked seasonal swings in water temperature. In spring (roughly May–June) surface temperatures typically rise from about 40–60°F (4–15°C) as ice-out gives way to warming. Peak summer conditions (July–August) often bring the warmest surface readings, commonly in the mid-60s to mid-70s °F (about 18–24°C), with shallow bays sometimes reaching the upper end of that range on hot, calm days. By autumn (September–October) the lake cools again to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures drop. In winter the pond usually freezes; near-surface water under ice is at or just above freezing, about 32°F (0°C), making open-water swimming effectively impossible then.
Swimming is permitted at Moose Pond during the warmer months and is a common recreational activity from private shorelines and public access points, provided local rules and posted advisories are followed. Summer temperatures often reach comfortable levels for most swimmers, but cooler waters in early spring and late fall increase the risk of cold-water shock and hypothermia, so caution is advised. Ice cover in winter prohibits safe swimming; additionally, swimmers should be mindful of water quality notices or algal-bloom advisories that can occasionally affect use.
