*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Ossipee Lake in New Hampshire experiences a clear seasonal cycle in surface water temperature. After ice-out in spring the lake typically warms from the mid-30s–60°F (1–16°C) through May and June. Peak summer surface temperatures commonly reach the mid-60s to upper-70s °F (about 18–26°C), with occasional localized spots briefly climbing toward 80°F (27°C) during heat waves. By early fall the water cools back into the 40s–60s °F range (7–16°C) as air temperatures drop, and in winter the lake often freezes with water at or just above 32°F (0°C) beneath the ice.
Swimming is permitted at public and private shoreline areas where access is provided, and many people swim in the lake during the warm months because of these public access points and municipal beaches. However, conditions vary by season and location: cold spring and late-fall water can increase risk of cold shock and hypothermia, and ice cover in winter makes swimming dangerous except for organized, well-prepared events. Local authorities occasionally post advisories for water-quality issues such as algal blooms, so swimmers should follow posted guidance and use common-sense precautions regarding temperature, depth and water quality before entering.
