** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Androscoggin Lake in Maine follows a typical northern New England seasonal pattern, with surface water temperatures that vary considerably through the year. In winter the lake is often near freezing, roughly 32–39°F (0–4°C) when ice is present. Spring thaw brings temperatures up into the 40s–60s°F (4–16°C) as the mixed water column warms. By mid to late summer surface waters commonly reach about 60–75°F (15–24°C), with sheltered, shallow areas warming toward the higher end (often 68–75°F / 20–24°C) while deeper basins remain much cooler. In autumn the surface generally cools back through the 50s–60s°F (10–16°C) before turnover. Weather, wind, depth and shading create local variation, and summer stratification leaves bottom waters substantially colder, often in the 40s–50s°F (4–12°C).
Swimming is generally allowed and widely practiced during the warm months where shore access is available, with mid-July through August offering the most comfortable conditions. Early summer and late-season swims can feel brisk and there is a real risk of cold-water shock from sudden immersion, so caution is advised: don’t swim alone and use flotation if uncertain. Winter ice cover makes swimming unsafe. As with any lake, water quality and safety can change—check local advisories or posted signs for algal blooms, bacterial conditions, or access restrictions before entering the water.
