*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Marion Lake in Minnesota follows the typical seasonal pattern of inland lakes in the region, with surface temperatures rising and falling with air temperatures and sunlight. After ice-out in spring, surface water often ranges from roughly 34–55°F (1–13°C) as the lake mixes and warms. In summer, shallow areas and the surface commonly warm to about 65–78°F (18–26°C), with peak afternoons sometimes reaching the low 80s (around 27–28°C) on very warm, calm days. By early fall the surface cools back toward 40–60°F (4–16°C) as nights lengthen. In winter the lake is usually ice-covered and the water beneath the ice stays near freezing, generally about 32–39°F (0–4°C). Deeper water is colder year-round and nearshore temperatures respond most quickly to air temperature swings, so conditions can vary by location and depth.
Swimming is commonly allowed at Minnesota lakes including Marion Lake where public access and beaches exist, but it is governed by local rules and current conditions. Warm summer surface temperatures often make swimming comfortable for recreation, while spring and fall cold water can increase the risk of cold shock and reduce swim time. Authorities may close or advise against swimming because of bacterial contamination, harmful algal blooms, hazards, or unsafe ice in winter. It’s advisable to check posted signs and local water-quality advisories before entering the water.
