*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Crystal Lake in Minnesota follows the seasonal temperature patterns typical of shallow to mid-depth inland lakes in the region. During winter months the lake is usually ice-covered and water temperatures near the surface are close to freezing, about 32°F (0°C) to the mid-30s°F (1–3°C) beneath the ice. In spring, as ice breaks up and the lake mixes, temperatures commonly rise into the 40s and 50s°F (4–15°C). By summer the surface can warm substantially, often ranging from the high 60s to upper 70s°F (20–26°C) in average years, with sheltered shallows occasionally reaching around 80°F (27°C). In autumn the lake cools back through the 50s°F (10–15°C) as turnover occurs and the season progresses.
Swimming is generally permitted during the open-water season when the lake is free of ice, and many people use public access points and beaches for recreation. Whether it is advisable to swim depends on current water temperatures, weather, and local water-quality or safety advisories; colder spring and fall temperatures can make prolonged immersion uncomfortable or hazardous due to reduced body heat. Winter swimming through ice is possible only under specialized, controlled conditions and with appropriate safety measures, but it is not recommended for casual recreation.
