*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Nokomis experiences a pronounced seasonal cycle in water temperature typical of inland Minnesota lakes. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures are usually in the 40s–60s°F (4–16°C) as the lake stratifies; early summer in June often warms to roughly 55–70°F (13–21°C). Peak summer in July and August commonly brings surface readings in the low 70s to upper 70s°F (21–26°C) and can occasionally reach about 80°F (27°C) during heat spells. By fall (September–October) the water cools back through the 60s to 40s°F (16–4°C). In winter the lake typically freezes and surface temperatures are at or near 32°F (0°C), with liquid water beneath ice at just above freezing until breakup.
Swimming at Lake Nokomis is a seasonal recreational activity concentrated in the warmer months at the public beaches and designated swim areas. Lifeguards are typically present at staffed city beaches during the summer season, and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board or public health authorities monitor water quality; advisories or temporary closures can occur for high bacteria counts or harmful algal blooms. When surface temperatures are in the 70s°F (around 21–26°C) swimmers generally find conditions comfortable, whereas cold spring and autumn waters and winter ice make swimming impractical or unsafe outside the summer season.
