** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mantrap Lake in Minnesota follows the typical northern-lake seasonal pattern for water temperature. In spring, after ice-out, surface temperatures commonly sit between about 40–55 °F (4–13 °C) as the water slowly warms. By summer, surface water in open areas and shallow bays often rises to roughly 68–75 °F (20–24 °C), and in warm late-summer spells some sheltered shallows can approach the upper 70s to around 80 °F (25–27 °C). In autumn the lake cools back down through the 50s to low 60s °F (10–17 °C) before freezing; during winter the lake surface is near freezing, typically around 32–39 °F (0–4 °C) beneath ice cover.
Swimming in Mantrap Lake is generally allowed where public access exists, and many people swim there during the warmer summer months because temperatures are usually comfortable for recreational swimming. That said, swimming is seasonally constrained: water remains quite cold in spring and late fall, and ice cover in winter makes swimming unsafe. Local regulations, posted advisories, and water-quality reports should be checked before entering the water, and swimmers should be mindful that there are typically no lifeguards and that conditions can change with wind, depth, and weather.
