*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lough Eske, nestled at the foot of the Blue Stack Mountains in County Donegal, is a picturesque freshwater lake with predictably cool water temperatures. The deep, clean waters of the lough mean that the seasonal temperature range is fairly narrow. In the summer months, the water may reach a maximum of around 16∘C (61∘F), making for a brisk, though refreshing, dip. During the winter, temperatures drop to a chilly range of approximately 8∘C to 10∘C (46∘F to 50∘F).
While swimming in the lough is not formally controlled and is generally permitted as a wild swimming activity, it is not a designated or monitored bathing spot, and caution is strongly advised due to the lack of lifeguards and the inherent cold. The lough and its surrounding area are known more for their serene setting and recreational opportunities like walking, cycling, and fishing. Nearby attractions include the historic Donegal Castle and Donegal Town, as well as the dramatic sea cliffs of Slieve League, which are a significant stop on the Wild Atlantic Way coastal route.
