*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lough Oughter, a large and complex maze of interconnected lakes in County Cavan, experiences the typical cool, yet varied, temperatures of an Irish inland waterway. Its waters are generally shallow, which allows for quicker warming in the summer, though it remains cold enough in winter to sometimes freeze over. Summer temperatures for swimming usually range between 14∘C and 17∘C (57∘F to 63∘F), offering a refreshing dip for the hardy. In the depths of winter, the water temperature will drop dramatically, hovering between 4∘C and 8∘C (39∘F to 46∘F).
Swimming is permitted in Lough Oughter, with a designated swimming area available within the nearby Killykeen Forest Park, which offers a sandy entrance for easier access. Like most Irish lakes, caution is advised due to the absence of lifeguards and the possibility of reeds and vegetation in some areas. The lake system is renowned for its natural beauty and is an ecotourism destination. The most famous landmark is the striking, ruined medieval Cloughoughter Castle, which sits dramatically on an island in the lake.
