Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Garadice Lough, situated in County Leitrim in Ireland’s northwest, is a large and tranquil freshwater lake within the Shannon–Erne waterway system. Its water temperature reflects Ireland’s mild but variable climate, typically staying around 4–6°C (39–43°F) in winter and warming to about 15–18°C (59–64°F) in summer. On calm, sunny days, the shallows along sheltered inlets can reach 19°C (66°F), though the open water remains cooler due to its depth and exposure to winds. These conditions make late June through early September the most comfortable period for swimming, when both the water and air temperatures are relatively mild.
Swimming is allowed in Garadice Lough, and its clean, open waters attract both local swimmers and visitors during the summer months. Designated access points and moorings are available around Haughton’s Shore and Garadice Park, which are also used by boaters and anglers. The lake’s size and calm surroundings make it ideal for paddle sports and nature observation, but swimmers should be cautious of deeper areas and changing weather conditions. Beyond the lake, visitors can explore the scenic countryside of County Leitrim, the Shannon–Erne canal route, and nearby Ballinamore, a friendly town known for its walking trails and relaxed atmosphere.
