Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Kindrum Lough, located on the Fanad Peninsula in County Donegal, is a shallow, lowland lake known for its oligotrophic status, meaning its water is exceptionally clear with low nutrient levels. Due to its northerly coastal location, the water is cool year-round. In the winter, temperatures can drop to a chilly range of approximately 4∘C to 8∘C (39∘F to 46∘F). Even during the summer, the water remains invigorating, with maximum surface temperatures typically peaking between 15∘C and 18∘C (59∘F to 64∘F).
Swimming is generally allowed as there are no by-laws prohibiting bathing in Irish lakes unless safety or conservation measures dictate otherwise. However, visitors should exercise caution because Kindrum Lough is a Special Area of Conservation due to its unique habitat and rare plant life, meaning swimmers should avoid disturbing the shoreline or aquatic vegetation. It is a popular spot for brown trout angling. The lough is also conveniently close to other renowned attractions on the Fanad Peninsula, such as the spectacular Fanad Lighthouse and the beautiful beach at Ballymastocker Bay.
