*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lough Meelagh, a tranquil lake in County Roscommon, offers a serene setting that follows the typical temperature trends of Irish inland waters. While specific, consistent data is scarce, the lake's temperature fluctuates seasonally, driven by air temperature. In the depths of winter, the water is cold, generally ranging between 4∘C and 8∘C (39∘F to 46∘F). As summer progresses, the relatively shallow waters absorb heat, with temperatures peaking in July and August at an average of 16∘C to 20∘C (61∘F to 68∘F), making it quite refreshing for a summer dip.
Open-water swimming is generally permitted in the lough as there are no laws strictly prohibiting it, though it is not a designated public bathing area and lacks official lifeguard supervision or facilities. Therefore, swimming is an activity undertaken at one's own risk, and swimmers should adhere to safety best practices. The lough is notable for its numerous crannógs, or ancient artificial islands, and its surroundings are home to Kilronan Castle Estate, which sits on the lake's banks, and the wider Miner's Way & Historical Trail for walking enthusiasts.
