Upper Lough Erne, an extensive and island-dotted freshwater lake in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, is characterized by its typically cold waters. While temperatures fluctuate seasonally, the lake remains cool throughout the year. In the depths of winter, the water temperature commonly settles in the range of 7∘C to 10∘C (45∘F to 50∘F). During the height of summer, the surface waters warm up to their peak, generally reaching about 15∘C to 18∘C (59∘F to 64∘F), though deeper sections remain colder.
Swimming is generally allowed in Upper Lough Erne, forming part of a popular wild swimming culture in the Fermanagh Lakelands.
