** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lough Easkey (also spelled Easky Lough) lies in the Ox Mountains of County Sligo in Ireland, nestled amid moorland and blanket bog. The lake is relatively small and shallow (mean depth approx. 3 m, max ~13 m) which means its water temperature fluctuates more quickly than deeper lakes. In the colder months, surface water temperatures likely hover around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F). In summer, during calm and sunny conditions, the surface may reach 14–17 °C (57–63 °F), possibly peaking around 18 °C (64 °F) in very shallow, sheltered spots. Because of winds, shade from the surrounding hills, and the cold stream inflows, the water remains cool even in summer.
Swimming in Lough Easkey is technically possible but not widely advertised as a formal bathing venue, and swimmers should proceed with care. The uneven, boggy shoreline, possible rapid weather changes and absence of dedicated lifeguard facilities mean it's best suited to experienced open-water swimmers who are comfortable with cool water and natural access. Entry is more practical in the summer months when air temperature and surface water align favourably. Beyond the water, the area casts a peaceful, remote atmosphere. Nearby attractions include the way-marked Lough Easkey loop trail (about 6 km) that skirts the lake shore, and the nearby Atlantic-facing village of Easky, itself known for surfing and coastal scenery. This combination of quiet upland lake, wild landscape and outdoor walking makes Lough Easkey an appealing destination for nature and adventure enthusiasts rather than casual beach-style swimmers.
