Lake Tuscaloosa, located just north of the city of Tuscaloosa in west-central Alabama, serves as both a primary water supply and a popular recreation area. Its water temperature changes noticeably throughout the year, following the region’s warm, humid subtropical climate. During winter, surface temperatures usually range between 46 and 54°F (8–12°C), remaining too cool for swimming but ideal for fishing. As spring advances, the lake warms to about 63–72°F (17–22°C) by May. In the summer months, water temperatures typically reach their annual maximum, averaging between 80 and 86°F (27–30°C) in July and August.
