*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lewis Smith Lake, commonly known as Smith Lake, is one of Alabama's most unique reservoirs, renowned for its exceptionally clear and deep water, with a maximum depth of 80 meters (264 feet). The water temperature is highly seasonal. During the summer months, surface temperatures are generally very comfortable for swimming, typically reaching highs in the range of 27∘C to 32∘C (80∘F to 90∘F). Conversely, the lake cools considerably in the winter, with surface temperatures dropping to the range of 4∘C to 11∘C (40∘F to 52∘F), making it too cold for casual water recreation.
Swimming is widely permitted and popular across Lewis Smith Lake due to its pristine, clear water and abundance of secluded coves along its 642 miles of shoreline. The water is often described as some of the cleanest in the Southeast, making it highly desirable for water sports and recreation. Specific facilities, such as Smith Lake Park and Clear Creek Park, explicitly offer designated swimming areas and sandy beaches. While swimming is generally encouraged, it is typically at one's own risk outside of these official parks. Swimmers should always be cautious of boat traffic and be aware that the lake's steep drop-offs and deep channels, created by the underlying rocky terrain, mean caution is always necessary.
