Little Bear Creek Reservoir, located in northwest Alabama near the town of Russellville, is a peaceful lake surrounded by wooded hills and known for its clear, cool water. Its temperature follows a seasonal pattern typical of the region’s humid subtropical climate. During winter, surface water temperatures usually range from 45 to 52°F (7–11°C), cool but rarely close to freezing. As spring arrives, the reservoir warms gradually to around 60–70°F (16–21°C) by late April and May. In summer, Little Bear Creek reaches its warmest period, with surface temperatures averaging 80–85°F (27–29°C) in July and August. During autumn, the water cools slowly to about 65–72°F (18–22°C) before returning to winter levels as air temperatures drop.
Swimming is allowed and widely enjoyed at Little Bear Creek Reservoir, particularly during late spring and summer when the water reaches its most comfortable range.
