*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Inland Lake, located in Blount County in northern Alabama, is a quiet reservoir surrounded by wooded hills and serves as a secondary water supply for the Birmingham area. The lake’s water temperature varies with the seasons, following a typical pattern for the region’s humid subtropical climate. During winter, the surface temperature usually ranges from 45 to 52°F (7–11°C), remaining cool but rarely approaching freezing. As spring progresses, the water warms steadily to about 60–70°F (16–21°C) by late April and May. Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface temperatures averaging 80–85°F (27–29°C) in July and August, while autumn sees a gradual cooling to around 65–72°F (18–22°C) before the onset of winter.
Swimming in Inland Lake is generally allowed, though there are no large developed beaches or lifeguarded areas. The lake’s clean water and gentle shoreline make it a pleasant place for informal swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding during the warm months. The best time for swimming is from late May through early September, when water temperatures remain comfortably warm and air conditions are ideal. Visitors should, however, use caution and avoid intake zones related to the reservoir’s water-supply function. Overall, Inland Lake offers a peaceful, natural setting for swimming and quiet recreation.
