Lake Ķīšezers in the Riga region is relatively shallow, which influences its seasonal water temperatures. In spring the surface usually warms from around 3–10 °C (37–50 °F) as ice melts and air temperatures rise. In summer the lake commonly reaches comfortable swimming levels, often 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) and during warm spells surface temperatures can climb to 25–27 °C (77–81 °F). In autumn the water cools again to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) as the air turns colder, and in winter the lake freezes in typical years; water immediately beneath the ice is close to 0 °C (32 °F), with only slight variations above freezing.
