** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lago de la Ercina, a glacial lake in the Lakes of Covadonga area of Asturias, sits at high altitude and therefore maintains relatively cold water throughout the year. Typical surface temperatures range from around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in winter, rising to roughly 3–8 °C (37–46 °F) in spring as snowmelt feeds the basin. In the warmest weeks of summer the lake can reach roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), though values above 12 °C (54 °F) are uncommon and brief; autumn sees temperatures fall back toward roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F). Local weather, wind and recent precipitation influence these figures, and the shallow margins can warm slightly more on calm sunny days, but the lake’s glacial origin and elevation keep it cold compared with lowland bathing waters.
Swimming is generally not a typical activity at Lago de la Ercina and is discouraged or restricted in many parts because the area lies within a protected natural park where human impact is limited to conserve habitats. Beyond conservation rules, the cold water presents a real safety hazard: immersion risks cold shock and rapid hypothermia even for experienced swimmers. There are no lifeguards or formal bathing facilities, so visitors usually enjoy the scenery and short walks rather than entering the water.
