It is also comfortable for water sports such as surfing or swimming. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

Location & Local Information
Lake Cerknica (Cerkniško jezero) is unique because it is an intermittent lake — at certain times of the year it fills with water, while in summer or during dry periods it can almost completely disappear. This makes swimming here very dependent on the season and water level. When the lake is full in late winter and spring, the water is quite cold, usually below 10°C. In early summer, if enough water remains, it can warm up to 18–22°C, but the conditions are never as stable as in permanent lakes.
Because of its changing character, Lake Cerknica is not a traditional swimming destination. People sometimes take a dip during the warmer months when the water is high enough and pleasant, but the lake is more famous for birdwatching, kayaking during floods, and hiking around its unique landscape. Swimming here is more of an occasional adventure than a regular activity.
