Location & Local Information
Lake Bohinj (Bohinjsko jezero) is the largest natural lake in Slovenia, located in the heart of the Julian Alps. Despite its alpine setting, the water warms up pleasantly in summer. From June to September, the surface temperature usually ranges between 20–24°C, and during hot spells it can even rise to 25°C. In spring and autumn, however, the lake is much cooler, often between 10–15°C, while in winter it stays just a few degrees above freezing.
Because of these conditions, Bohinj is very popular for swimming and other water activities. There are several natural bathing areas along its shores, and the water is clear and inviting. Families, swimmers, and even kayakers find it a comfortable place during summer, though outside of the warm season only the more adventurous go in for a quick dip.
