Wild Lake (Divje jezero) near Idrija is a karstic spring lake with an extraordinary depth and very cold water. Even in the warmest months of the year, the temperature barely reaches 10–12°C, and for most of the time it stays closer to 6–9°C. Because the lake is fed directly by underground springs, it does not warm up in summer the way other lakes do.
Swimming in Wild Lake is not recommended, both due to its low temperature and because it is a protected natural monument. The water is crystal clear but icy, and only the bravest occasionally try a very quick dip. For most visitors, the main attraction is the unique scenery, the mysterious depth of the spring, and the hiking paths around it rather than bathing.
