** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lagoa Comprida, in the Guarda district and part of the high plateaus of Serra da Estrela, is typically a cold mountain lake whose temperatures reflect elevation, depth and snowmelt. Seasonal surface temperatures commonly range from about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in winter when ice or near‑freezing conditions can occur, 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) in spring, 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in the warmest summer months, and roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in autumn. Deeper layers remain colder year‑round, so even in summer the water feels noticeably chilly compared with lowland lakes. Weather swings and inflows of cold meltwater also produce rapid temperature changes.
Swimming at Lagoa Comprida is possible in principle but not widely promoted. Parts of the area are within protected parkland and some stretches are influenced by dam infrastructure, so local rules, signage and seasonal restrictions may limit bathing. Practical concerns include very low water temperatures that raise the risk of cold shock and hypothermia, steep or rocky shores, and few if any lifeguards or facilities. Visitors interested in swimming should check current local guidance and be prepared for cold, potentially hazardous conditions.
