The Albufeira da Barragem do Vilar, in Viseu District, typically shows seasonal surface temperature patterns driven by regional climate and reservoir depth. In winter the surface water commonly ranges from about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), spring and autumn see moderate warming to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), and in the warmest months surface temperatures often reach about 20–25 °C (68–77 °F). These are approximate values: actual temperatures vary with recent weather, water level, inflows and local stratification, so cooler conditions can be found below the surface even in summer and rapid cooling can occur after cloudy or windy periods.
