*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The reservoir known locally as Albufeira da Barragem de Mal. Carmona, in the Castelo Branco district, experiences marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In winter the lake commonly cools to about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), while spring temperatures typically rise into the 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) range. Summer surface waters can warm considerably, often reaching 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) on warm days, and early autumn generally brings temperatures of roughly 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) as the lake begins to cool again. These values are approximate and depend on recent weather, wind, depth and inflow; deeper or shaded areas stay colder year-round.
Swimming at Albufeira da Barragem de Mal. Carmona is commonly practiced but is subject to local rules and conditions: some parts of the embayment are used for recreation and bathing, while other zones near dam infrastructure, intakes or steep banks are restricted for safety reasons. Water quality, operational releases, signage and municipal ordinances determine whether bathing is permitted at any given time, and lifeguards are not guaranteed. Visitors should follow posted warnings, avoid areas with strong currents or boat traffic, and consider cooler temperatures outside midsummer when cold shock and hypothermia become risks.
