** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Albufeira da Barragem de Santa Águeda, in the Castelo Branco district, shows typical inland reservoir temperature patterns driven by depth, inflows and seasonal air temperatures. In winter the surface water often ranges from about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), spring warms to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) as mixing increases, and summer can see surface temperatures between roughly 20–27 °C (68–81 °F) on warm, calm days; autumn normally cools back to about 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Deeper layers remain colder year-round, and local conditions such as recent rainfall, wind and dam discharges can shift these values by several degrees. Thermal stratification in summer can mean a warm surface but much cooler water below.
Swimming in the reservoir is sometimes practiced by locals and visitors, but it is not universally promoted or supervised. As a multi‑use water body managed for supply and irrigation, access and activities are subject to municipal and water authority rules; some zones may be permitted while others are restricted for safety, water quality or operational reasons. Hazards include cold deeper water, submerged structures, sudden releases and lack of lifeguards, so swimming is at one’s own risk unless in designated, signposted areas where authorities explicitly allow recreational bathing. Always check local signage and regulations before entering the water.
