** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The lake of Covão do Meio (Portuguese: Covão do Meio), in the Guarda District, is a mountain reservoir whose water temperature varies markedly with the seasons because of altitude and local climate. In winter the surface water commonly sits around 2–8 °C (36–46 °F), while spring and autumn bring moderate cooling or warming into a band near 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). During the warmest weeks of summer, temperatures can reach roughly 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) at the surface, though cooler inflows and depth mean that even in summer the water can feel brisk compared with lowland beaches.
Swimming is possible mainly in the warmer months when surface temperatures are most comfortable, but it is not universally recommended year‑round. Local rules or reservoir management may prohibit bathing in places used for water supply or where safety signage is posted, and the cold water outside summer raises real hypothermia and shock risks. Visitors should check on-site notices and municipal guidance, assess water quality and access points, and take ordinary safety precautions (companions, flotation aids) if choosing to swim, because both environmental conditions and regulatory restrictions determine whether swimming is allowed at any given time.
