*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Albufeira da Barragem de Santa Luzia, in the Coimbra district, has water temperatures that follow a typical temperate-reservoir pattern. In winter months the surface temperature often ranges from about 8–12 °C (46–54 °F), rising through spring to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). During summer the lake can warm to approximately 18–25 °C (64–77 °F), occasionally reaching the high 20s °C (around 80–82 °F) in heatwaves, while autumn sees cooling back to roughly 14–20 °C (57–68 °F). These values vary with depth, weather, inflows and recent rainfall: shallow bays warm fastest, and releases from the dam can locally cool the water.
Swimming at Albufeira da Barragem de Santa Luzia is possible and commonly undertaken in calm, accessible areas, but its permissibility depends on local rules, water quality and safety considerations. Authorities may designate specific zones for bathing or prohibit access near the dam, intake structures and boating lanes for safety. Water-quality monitoring influences whether bathing is advisable, since agricultural runoff or algal blooms can occasionally affect conditions. Visitors should heed signage, respect seasonal or temporary restrictions, and take care with currents, sudden depth changes and boat traffic when choosing to swim.
