** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The reservoir known in Portuguese as Albufeira da barragem da Toulica, in the Castelo Branco district, shows marked seasonal variation in water temperature typical of inland Mediterranean reservoirs. Surface temperatures in summer commonly rise to about 22–28 °C (72–82 °F), while autumn averages tend to fall back to roughly 15–22 °C (59–72 °F). Spring warming usually produces temperatures around 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), and winter can cool the water to approximately 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). Deeper sections remain colder year-round and sudden drops in temperature are possible after heavy rains or releases from the dam; these ranges are indicative rather than constant and depend on weather, reservoir level and time of day.
Swimming in the Albufeira da barragem da Toulica is often undertaken by locals and visitors, but it is not always an officially supervised beach area and rules can vary. Some stretches may permit informal bathing, yet access can be limited by steep banks, submerged obstacles and variable water quality; the municipality or water authority may restrict swimming during low flows, maintenance or contamination episodes. For safety, swimmers should look for posted signs, avoid hazardous inlets and remember there are generally no lifeguards, meaning bathing is usually at one’s own risk.
