** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Albufeira da Barragem do Caldeirão, in the Guarda district, is a mountain reservoir whose water temperature reflects seasonal climate, altitude and reservoir depth. Typical winter surface temperatures range roughly from 6–10 °C (43–50 °F), spring from about 10–16 °C (50–61 °F), summer commonly from 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) with occasional warmer surface spots in heatwaves, and autumn cooling back to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Temperature stratification can leave deeper water considerably colder than the surface, and inflows from streams or recent rain will also lower temperatures, so swimmers should expect variable conditions even on warm days.
Swimming is frequently practiced here in summer, but the reservoir is not generally an official supervised bathing area; there is little formal infrastructure such as lifeguards or marked swim zones. Local rules can vary, and authorities may occasionally restrict access for safety, water management or quality reasons, so signs or municipal guidance should be checked before entering the water. Hazards include steep or uneven banks, sudden depth changes, submerged vegetation and cold shock from deep water. For these reasons, informal swimming is allowed in many spots but should be done cautiously and preferably with companions.
