Lake Kynsivesi-Leivonvesi, located in Central Finland near Hankasalmi and Konnevesi, is a large interconnected lake system known for its clear water and peaceful forest surroundings. The lake’s water temperature varies noticeably throughout the year. In spring, after the ice melts, it remains cold, about 5–8 °C (41–46 °F). During early summer, it warms gradually to 14–17 °C (57–63 °F), and in July, at the height of summer, temperatures typically reach 19–22 °C (66–72 °F). On particularly warm days, sheltered bays can briefly reach 23–24 °C (73–75 °F). In autumn, the water cools below 10 °C (50 °F), and by late November or early December, the lake is usually frozen.
Swimming in Kynsivesi-Leivonvesi is allowed and enjoyed by both locals and visitors.
