Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Niinivesi, located in North Savo, Finland, between the municipalities of Rautalampi and Suonenjoki, is a long, narrow freshwater lake that forms part of the Kymijoki river basin. Surrounded by forests and rocky shores, it is known for its clear and clean water. Because of its moderate depth and connection to other lakes, the water temperature changes steadily through the seasons. After the ice melts in late April or early May, the surface temperature is around 4–7 °C (39–45 °F). During early summer, it rises to 13–16 °C (55–61 °F), and in July, the warmest month, Niinivesi typically reaches 18–21 °C (64–70 °F). On particularly hot days, shallow areas can briefly warm to 22–23 °C (72–73 °F). By September, the water cools below 10 °C (50 °F), and the lake usually freezes again in November.
Swimming in Lake Niinivesi is allowed and popular during the summer months. The water is of good quality and suitable for bathing, with several beaches and piers around Rautalampi offering easy access. The lake’s clean and calm waters provide a refreshing swimming experience, especially during warm weather. Even though the water remains relatively cool, its clarity and peaceful surroundings make swimming both relaxing and invigorating.
