Swimming is allowed throughout its open-water season and shoreline due to Everyman's Rights, which grant public access to natural areas for recreation, provided private property is respected. Hankavesi is notable for hosting designated swimming routes, such as the three-kilometer Hankavesi Route, primarily intended for open water swimmers, signaling its good water quality and suitability for active recreation.
The water temperature in Hankavesi varies distinctly with the seasons.
