*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Karikkoselkä, located in Central Finland near Petäjävesi, is a deep and clear freshwater lake formed in an ancient meteorite crater. Its unique shape and depth influence the water temperature, which changes slowly with the seasons. In spring, after the ice melts, the surface water remains cold at around 4–7 °C (39–45 °F). During early summer, it gradually warms to 13–17 °C (55–63 °F), and in July, when the weather is warmest, the lake typically reaches 18–21 °C (64–70 °F). On particularly hot days, shallow bays can briefly rise to 22–23 °C (72–73 °F). By autumn, temperatures fall below 10 °C (50 °F), and the lake usually freezes by late November.
Swimming in Lake Karikkoselkä is officially allowed and appreciated for its clean and calm water. Several natural swimming spots can be found along the shores near Petäjävesi, offering access for both locals and visitors. Because of the lake’s depth, the water tends to stay refreshingly cool even in mid-summer, making it ideal for open-water swimming and nature enthusiasts. The peaceful surroundings and clear water create a relaxing setting for swimming, kayaking, and enjoying the unspoiled Finnish landscape.
