** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Jennings Randolph Lake, on the Maryland–West Virginia border, is a deep reservoir whose surface temperatures change a lot through the year. Typical winter surface readings are about 32–45°F (0–7°C), spring commonly ranges from roughly 40–65°F (4–18°C) as the water warms, summer surface temperatures most often sit between 65–78°F (18–26°C) though shallow bays can warm a bit higher, and fall typically cools back to about 50–65°F (10–18°C). The lake stratifies in summer, so deeper water remains markedly colder than surface readings, and reservoir releases or weather can cause swift temperature shifts that affect local conditions.
There is no lifeguarded public swim beach at Jennings Randolph, and the managing agency does not promote general swimming; shore and open‑water swimming are generally discouraged or restricted because of steep banks, strong currents or sudden drop‑offs, boat traffic, submerged obstructions and the risk of cold‑water shock even on warm days. Recreation at Jennings Randolph is centered on boating, fishing and camping, and anyone entering the water should follow posted site rules, be aware of seasonally cold temperatures, and use appropriate safety gear such as life jackets.
