** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Quemahoning Reservoir, in southwestern Pennsylvania, follows the seasonal temperature pattern typical of mid-Atlantic reservoirs. Surface temperatures in spring commonly range from roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C) as the water mixes and warms; by summer the surface often reaches about 68–78°F (20–26°C) on warm afternoons, though cooler pockets persist near deep or shaded areas. In autumn the water cools back into the 50–65°F (10–18°C) range as air temperatures drop, and in winter the reservoir can approach freezing with surface temperatures near 32–40°F (0–4°C) and occasional ice cover. Thermal stratification can develop in summer, producing warmer surface layers and much colder water just a few meters deeper, so experienced water temperatures can vary with depth and location within the reservoir.
Public swimming in the main body of Quemahoning Reservoir is generally restricted for practical reasons tied to safety and water-quality management. As a working reservoir the site has safety hazards such as steep drop-offs, cold deeper water, and boat traffic, and managers commonly limit free-swimming to protect drinking-water quality and reduce risk; when swimming is permitted it is usually confined to designated, supervised areas or seasonal programs that meet local regulations. Visitors should check current local rules and posted signage before entering the water.
