*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Shenandoah, located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, experiences typical temperate-season variations in surface water temperature. In winter the lake often drops into the mid-30s to mid-40s °F (about 1–7 °C), with colder nights producing near-freezing conditions in shallower areas. Spring brings steady warming, commonly to the mid-40s to mid-60s °F (7–18 °C) as ice melts and sunlight increases. Peak summer surface temperatures generally sit between the low 70s and low 80s °F (21–28 °C) and can climb into the mid-80s °F (around 29 °C) in shallow coves during heat waves. In autumn the water cools back into the 50s and lower 60s °F (10–17 °C). Deeper water stays cooler year-round, and the lake can stratify in summer so conditions vary with depth and location.
Swimming at Lake Shenandoah is not typically offered as a formal, staffed recreational beach; many visitors report informal swimming and wading in permitted areas, but there are limited lifeguard services and few built swimming facilities. Because of that and because water quality, underwater hazards, fluctuating levels, and local regulations can affect safety, authorities generally do not promote organized swimming. Visitors should follow posted rules and guidance from local managers before entering the water.
