*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Inniscarra Lake (also known as Inniscarra Reservoir) in County Cork is a man-made lake formed by the damming of the River Lee in the 1950s. Being a reservoir rather than a natural shallow lake, its water remains rather cool throughout the year. While precise seasonal surface-temperature records for the lake are limited, hydrometric data show that even in late summer the water is often in the low teens Celsius. For example, readings from nearby monitoring stations suggest water temperatures of around 10–14 °C (50–57 °F) in warmer months. In winter and early spring, water temperatures are likely to fall to around 4–7 °C (39–45 °F), given the depth and inflows of cold river-water. Because of this, swimming in the lake tends to be brisk and more suitable for short dips or for those accustomed to cool-water conditions.
Swimming at Inniscarra Lake is not widely promoted as a dedicated bathing venue, and access points are more commonly associated with rowing, sailing and fishing. Nevertheless, swimming is physically possible, especially on warm, calm days and preferably when joined by others or with safety precautions. The lake’s tranquil setting lends itself to outdoor recreation, though swimmers should be aware of depth, changing weather and activity from boats or watercraft. Nearby attractions enhance the visit: the village of Coachford lies on the lake’s north shore, popular for riverside walks and local amenities; the scenic Farran Bridge and forested trails around the reservoir provide further outdoor options; and Cork city, only a short drive away, offers cultural and dining opportunities.
