** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lough Graney, a tranquil lake situated in the East Clare region, offers a truly refreshing experience for swimmers. The water temperature of this freshwater lough follows typical Irish inland patterns, being notably cool for most of the year. In the colder months, the water temperature typically ranges from a low of about 8∘C to 10∘C (46∘F to 50∘F). During the summer, particularly in July and August, the shallower nature of the lake allows the water to warm up more than deeper bodies, sometimes reaching a relatively comfortable 16∘C to 18∘C (61∘F to 64∘F).
Swimming is widely considered allowed and safe in Lough Graney, which is informally known as a good spot for a natural dip. While it is not a formally designated bathing area with official monitoring, its waters are generally clean, and it is a popular location for wild swimmers and other water-based activities like kayaking. Visitors are encouraged to be mindful of local conditions and the presence of reeds in certain areas. Beyond the lough, the surrounding area is a gateway to the East Clare Way walking trail, and is a short drive from the larger Lough Derg, which offers many watersports and historical sites, including Holy Island.
