*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Fed by clear mountain streams, the lake remains cool throughout the year. In winter, water temperatures usually range between 4–7°C (39–45°F), while in summer they rise to around 14–17°C (57–63°F). On warm, calm days in July or August, sheltered bays may briefly reach 18°C (64°F), though the deeper parts stay much colder. The surrounding uplands and the lake’s outflow into the River Caragh keep the water fresh and clean, making the summer months the most comfortable for swimming or other water activities.

Wetsuits are commonly used, especially outside midsummer, and calm days are preferred for safety. The peaceful atmosphere and clear water attract outdoor enthusiasts who also enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. Beyond swimming, visitors can explore the nearby village of Glenbeigh, hike the scenic Kerry Way trail, or visit Rossbeigh Beach on the Atlantic coast.
