Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Vangsvatnet (Norwegian: Vangsvatnet) is a freshwater lake in Vestland County whose surface temperatures vary markedly with the seasons. In winter the water is typically at or just above freezing, around 0 to 2 °C (32 to 36 °F), and the lake may be ice-covered for periods. Spring brings a gradual rise, with surface temperatures commonly between 3 and 8 °C (37 to 46 °F) as snowmelt and cool air continue to influence the basin. In the warmest months of July and August the surface can reach roughly 12 to 18 °C (54 to 64 °F) on sunny, calm days, while autumn temperatures usually fall back into the 6 to 12 °C (43 to 54 °F) range.
Swimming in Vangsvatnet is generally permitted; Norway’s public access traditions and local recreational use mean people commonly enter the water for short swims in summer. However, the season for comfortable bathing is short and the lake remains relatively cold compared with lowland or southern lakes, so swimmers should be aware of cold-water effects and changing weather. Access points and informal beaches exist in places, but safe practice—acclimatizing, avoiding long solo swims, and using flotation if unsure—is advisable because sudden chills, depth changes and boat traffic can pose hazards even when swimming is allowed.
