*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Canal Lake, located in the Kawartha Lakes region of southern Ontario, is a long and shallow body of water that forms part of the Trent–Severn Waterway. Because of its limited depth, the lake experiences large seasonal temperature changes. In winter, it usually freezes completely, with water temperatures near 0 °C (32 °F). During spring, the ice melts and the lake slowly warms, averaging 5–10 °C (41–50 °F). By midsummer, the surface water in Canal Lake often reaches 22–26 °C (72–79 °F), making it one of the warmer lakes in the area. In autumn, as air temperatures drop, the water cools again to about 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) before freezing returns in late November or December.
Swimming in Canal Lake is common and generally pleasant during the summer months, from late June through early September. The shallow nature of the lake allows the surface water to heat up quickly, providing comfortable conditions for families and recreational swimmers. Public and private access points around the shoreline make it easy to enjoy swimming and paddling. However, due to its shallowness, aquatic vegetation can become dense later in the season, and water clarity may decrease. Outside the warm months, the lake is too cold for swimming but remains popular for boating and fishing.
