*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Pigeon Lake, located in the Kawartha Lakes region of southern Ontario, is a long, shallow lake that forms part of the Trent–Severn Waterway. Because of its moderate depth and southern location, the lake warms up relatively quickly in summer but also cools rapidly in autumn. In winter, Pigeon Lake usually freezes, with water temperatures near 0 °C (32 °F). During spring, melting ice and inflowing rivers keep the temperature cool, typically between 5–10 °C (41–50 °F). By midsummer, surface waters often reach 20–25 °C (68–77 °F), especially in sheltered bays and near shorelines. In autumn, the water cools again to around 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) before returning to freezing conditions in late fall.
Swimming in Pigeon Lake is common and officially allowed during the warm season, usually from late June through early September, when water temperatures are most comfortable. The lake’s sandy and grassy shorelines make it suitable for families and recreational swimmers, and public beaches can be found in nearby towns such as Bobcaygeon. However, swimmers should remain aware of aquatic vegetation and boating traffic, which are common in summer. Outside the swimming season, the water becomes too cold for safe bathing, though Pigeon Lake remains a popular destination for fishing, kayaking, and lakeside relaxation.
