*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Buckhorn Lake, located in the Kawartha Lakes region of southern Ontario, is a shallow, scenic lake that forms part of the Trent–Severn Waterway. Its moderate depth allows it to warm quickly in summer but also cool rapidly in autumn. During winter, the lake typically freezes, with surface temperatures close to 0 °C (32 °F). In spring, melting ice and runoff keep the water cool, averaging 5–10 °C (41–50 °F). By midsummer, Buckhorn Lake warms to 20–25 °C (68–77 °F), especially in shallow bays and near the shoreline. In autumn, cooling air temperatures bring the water back down to 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) before ice begins to form again toward late fall.
Swimming in Buckhorn Lake is widely enjoyed during the summer months, particularly from late June through early September, when the water is comfortably warm. The lake’s calm, clean water and sandy or rocky shorelines provide ideal conditions for swimming, canoeing, and other water recreation. Designated swimming areas can be found in local parks and at private cottages around the lake. However, swimmers should be aware of aquatic vegetation, which grows more densely in shallow areas during late summer. Outside the warm season, cold temperatures and changing weather make swimming unsafe, though the lake remains popular for boating and fishing.
