Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Gloucester Pool, located near Port Severn in central Ontario, is part of the Trent–Severn Waterway and connects with Georgian Bay through a system of locks and channels. The lake’s water temperature reflects the region’s moderate continental climate and the influence of nearby larger water bodies. In winter, temperatures drop close to freezing, around 0–2 °C (32–36 °F), and much of the lake may freeze. During spring, the water slowly warms as ice melts, staying between 5–10 °C (41–50 °F) through April and May. By mid-summer, the surface water typically reaches 20–24 °C (68–75 °F) in sheltered bays, while deeper areas remain cooler. In autumn, temperatures decline again to 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) as the air cools and the water begins to mix.
Swimming in Gloucester Pool is popular during the summer months, particularly from late June through early September, when surface temperatures are comfortable and the water is clear and inviting. Many cottages and resorts along the shoreline provide easy access to swimming areas, docks, and small beaches. The lake’s clean water and scenic rocky shoreline make it ideal for recreation, though swimmers should be cautious of boat traffic due to its connection with the Trent–Severn navigation route. Outside of summer, cold water and changing conditions make swimming less suitable and potentially unsafe.
